Homework - Design

In the Christmas Holidays...

Use the Grids, from your Course Folder,
to design a piece of brickwork

Inserting a direct link to your Course Folder
does not seem to work

The maximum height is about 18 courses
and the maximum length is about 15 bricks

If you want to build off the blockwork plinths in the workshop, they are 12 bricks long and 300mm high

I strongly recommend you start this before the break, because when the college is closed you won't be able
to get much help.

Also, you won't be able to access anything stored on the NCN computers, so bring a stick, or email it to yourself
as an attachment

I have tried to post these grids up on the blog,
but the compression alters the edges

The following images show the different grids,
with 3 courses and 3 bricks long

Take Care that you choose the right one

Queen Closer Grid

Queen Closer Grid
Squares are in Grey
This is suitable for English, Flemish and any of their variations, such as Monk or Suffolk Bond

4 squares = Stretcher
2 squares = Header or half a brick
1 square = Queen Closer is or half a header
Soldier Grid

Soldier Grid
Squares are in Gold
This is suitable for bricks that are laid vertically
ie Soldiers, or horizontally ie Stretchers

1 brick = 3 squares
Stretcher Grid

Stretcher Grid
Bricks outlined in black

This is suitable for patterns using different coloured bricks. It is the easiest bond to build, but can be a bit boring
